I grew up heavily influenced by the world of veterinary medicine. My father was a veterinarian/veterinary pathologist. Despite this background, I did try other occupations first. In my twenties, I was a biologist researching global warming issues. My work took me to the far reaches of Canada (Yukon; Northwest Territories; Churchill, Manitoba; and the Rocky Mountains in Alberta and British Columbia) and I also worked internationally (Rainforest Research in Guadeloupe).

I received a Master of Science degree from McMaster University for my research. I then became a Radiation Safety Officer for the University of Northern British Columbia, in Prince George, B.C. for 5 years. It was at this time that I began to realize I was missing my calling. I began volunteering for veterinarians in British Columbia and this re-affirmed my love for veterinary medicine. I received my degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Before I finished my degree, a friend of the family found a human gastroscope that was for sale at a local hospital. They asked if I was interested in purchasing it. Thus began my love of everything endoscopic. I started specializing in endoscopy prior to graduating from WCVM.

I returned to Ontario where I practiced large and small animal medicine. I stayed in the Beamsville/Smithville area as my family is close by. I switched my focus from mixed animal practice to strictly small animal medicine. I then specialized further in endoscopy and set up an endoscopy referral practice for the Niagara Region at Beamsville Animal Hospital. I became a part owner of Beamsville and Smithville Animal Hospitals. I have enjoyed general practice for the past 10 years.

For the last 1.5 years I have been taking shifts at our local emergency clinic. My time working at the clinic awakened a desire to further pursue emergency and urgent care medicine. I have sold my share of the practices and am venturing out on my own. My new business involves locum work with both general medicine/surgery/dental surgery (dog and cat) as well as emergency and urgent care. Currently, I reside in Beamsville with my wonderful husband, much-loved son, our two cats Suki, M, and Chihuahua mix Penny Bee.
